voice coach?

Should every new actor find themselves a voice coach? Is this more of a requirement for theater (for projection, etc) than film actors?
Also, birds fall dead from the trees when I sing - do I need to fix this or is it something that would rarely be an issue?
Voice Coach?
Buy Roger Love's book VOCAL POWER, or get it from your library. He's probably THE best vocal coach anywhere. The book is practically a speech class in and of itself, it'd save you a lot of money over hiring a voice coach.
Don't worry about not being able to sing (yet). I can't sing worth a damn, so I just don't do musicals.

Voice Coaches
It is a very good thing that you're aware that your voice should be developed to it's fullest extent. In that sense it is important to find a voice coach. It is also important to be aware that many voice coaches seem to do more harm than good. Just like doctors, there are good ones and bad ones.
Some guiding rules are: The exercises should never hurt or make you exhausted. Too many actors yell the exercises to build up the voice as if it was like doing a bench press. You should do vocal speech exercises at least 5 minutes twice a day and then build up from there. you can tell if your doing the exercises properly if you feel refreshed when you're done instead of exhausted. When trying out voices coaches, trust your feelings. It should feel natural.
Don't worry about birds falling dead. Just work on your speaking voice for now.
