Commercials
Lots of ways: Short answer: Beat out the competition. How? Right look. A certain indefinable quality they are looking for. Dress somewhat appropriately (no ripped jeans if you're up for a young professional). Do something just a tiny bit original. I once booked a commercial where I was to walk a dog in a park. Most of the audition (on camera) was ad lib. I took a long chained purse, dragged it on the floor and kept gooing at my purse/slash dog. I am positive it was the purse/dog that booked that commercial.

Depending on your career goals, and the nature of the "extra" position, an extra job may or may not serve you in advancing your career.
Seven Demo Reel Tips
"Dear Chad: I know that I need a demo reel in order to get television and film work, but what should I put on the reel? Is there a standard format? Thanks! Devon Smalls, New York."

How Jeff Made $70,000 in One Day of Acting
Recently I was at the Russian baths, sitting in a sauna with a few actor friends of mine, discussing their latest projects. At one point, we started teasing our friend Jeff for a Zantac commercial he starred in, mimicking the pained look on his face after he devoured a spicy pizza.
But then he informed us that for that day's work, he's made nearly $70,000. That silenced us. Since the spot has run for nearly two years across the country, his heartburn imitation has earned him an enormous sum (and the checks are still rolling in).

1. Don't be late. Be 10 minutes early if possible, make a cup of coffee and relax.
2. "High-Lite" your dialogue. Always have a pencil to add directions.
3. Keep script changes to a minimum. But if something is too banal then request and offer a possible alternative.
4. Always prefix what you say with "Do you think." etc, when addressing a director or "Is it possible."
