Beware of Companies Asking for money up front

Dear Drea: I would always be leary of companies wanting your money up front. Besides what are they guaranteeing you in return? There are no guarantees in this business only that it is a business and must be treated as such. As I mentioned in another post, avoid these like the plague. To show you a for example, lets say you are with a talent agent. They will only take their percentage AFTER you book something. Keep that in mind when moving forward. Ask yourself what is it that you need in the business? Use this site to help answer more of your specific questions. You won't find those answers with companies like this. I hope this answer helps.

Hi Drea: I was with that

Hi Drea:

I was with that company in 2005 and I got out of it. They kept taking money out of my checking account and in return I never got work. Meaning they say a casting director will contact you or an agent will contact you. This was a falsehood. Throughout my acting career and from talking with professionals in order to make it in this business you need to network with other actors and show your work. Casting directors and agents should see your work so that they are able to see what you can do. Sometimes that is NOT a gaurantee but certainly does help. This business is hard and nothing is a gaurantee but it requires hard work, patience, struggling, and diligence. Never pay anything to anyone I've been through many scams in my career but I learn everyday who the scammers are and who are not. I always look up the agencies thru the Better Business Bureau, I read about the director, acting coaches, and instructors but reading their resume or googling them to see what their credentials are. If no information is given then I stay away from them. I always do my "homework". Keep working hard and never go into this business just for the money because if you are then you are looking forward to alot of disappointment. Most of it is also luck.
