Lots of ways: Short answer: Beat out the competition. How? Right look. A certain indefinable quality they are looking for. Dress somewhat appropriately (no ripped jeans if you're up for a young professional). Do something just a tiny bit original. I once booked a commercial where I was to walk a dog in a park. Most of the audition (on camera) was ad lib. I took a long chained purse, dragged it on the floor and kept gooing at my purse/slash dog. I am positive it was the purse/dog that booked that commercial.

Here we can all share tips on schools that are often overlooked.

Hello, ActorTips readers, old and new. It is lovely to chat with you again. Thank you to the many many readers who wrote Chad or myself those wonderful "We miss you" emails.

As a belated memorial to my husband Jeff, my best fan, cheerleader, promoter of the "glass half-full" philosophy, counselor, and indefatigable Kleenex carrier (this is a tear-creating profession), I decided to produce and perform in one of his favorite plays. The role was splendid, the greatest in my opinion for an actress of "an uncertain age" since Medea.

Believe it or not, TV acting and film acting are worlds apart. Acting just isn’t acting in the world of television and film-making. For example: It isn’t hard to notice that there is a difference in the quality of television shows versus film acting and it also depends on what type of television acting that is being done. The different types of TV acting include sitcoms, commercials, series, mini-series, and made for TV movies. There are also shows that do short skits such as crime shows or shows about the supernatural.

When the acting bug strikes, there is one question on the mind of the one dreaming of an acting career. That question is, “Is acting school necessary?” This is a good question since there are a lot of actors and actresses in Hollywood doing well for themselves without ever stepping foot in an acting school, let alone an acting class. It is like they are born with it and naturally fell into this constant role.

You’ve wanted to audition for this part but did not know if you would get the audition. Well now you’ve gotten the phone call telling you congratulations and that you need to be in a certain place at a certain time to show the big bosses what you’ve got. You certainly don’t want to mess it up because this audition is what is going to achieve your next goal in becoming the actor that you dream to be. Without nailing this audition, you’re back to square one in this phase of the game.

What you need to do

Do you have a child that is a prodigy when it comes to acting things out? Are you thinking about taking your child to auditions? Are you wondering how young is too young to start acting? Many parents who feel their child is an acting prodigy waiting to bust out ask themselves a billion questions before they make a move. They ask these questions because they worry about their child becoming the next child star who cannot make it in an adult acting world. Luckily, we are seeing many of the child stars of the 90s grow into adult roles, unlike the child stars of the 70s and the 80s.

There are so many acting schools out there that it can make your head spin. You hear great things about so many of them, but you also hear bad things. This can definitely make for some difficult decision making. However, there is one thing you really have to take into consideration when selecting an acting school and that is choosing an acting school that is your style.
