If there is something minor that may not be a big deal to others, but is something you dont feel comfortable doing in an audition..like maybe even profanity, should you just explain that to the person you are auditioning for beforehand, politely decline to read them or just ask if you can change the words a little and keep the same meaning?

Profanity
Hi Michael...GREAT question!!!
If at all possible, try to get the sides beforehand. If there's anything in there that you are uncomfortable with, nicely decline the audition. But if you read the sides, accept the audition, then show up and try to change the words or decline to read them, they will probably be a little upset that you wasted their time.
So, my suggestion for you, is to ALWAYS get your sides ahead of time. Especially since you know that you have some issues with certain things.
It is kind of rude to ask if you can change their words. Most of the time, if there is profanity, the writer feels that that's what is needed in the scene.
